TITO.LA is John Nguyen of Los Angeles, California.
John Nguyen is a 3d animator/cg supervisor specializing in motion graphics/visualfx and has been working professionally since 1998.
After drawing all of his life and picking up photography during his childhood, John went on scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1994 for his undergrad studies where he was exposed to his first SGI 3d workstation and Alias Power Animator. Determined to be the next ILM or Pixar employee, he escaped to Chicago and worked at a state of the art post production facility, The Filmworkers Club, where he was 3d animator on award winning commercials from 1998-2002 for agencies such as Leo Burnett, Foote Cone & Belding, DDB, and Ogilvy & Mather.
Chicago’s -30 degree windchill factor wasn’t a match for his warm SouthEast Asian blood, so he escaped to Los Angeles in 2002 and worked with major design studios such as Imaginary Forces, Brand New School, National Television, Superfad, Blind, The Director’s Bureau, Logan, Stardust, and Prologue.
As a 3d generalist/compositor John likes to work on a variety of projects ranging from 3d photo-real, hyper-real, to stylized graphical with a creative edge for commercials, film titles, tv branding, and online web media.
An experienced on set fx supervisor, John has supervised commercial shoots and mocap sessions for Kirby/Nintendo, Honda/Respect the Van, Californication/Showtime, HP/Serena Hands, Honda Civic, Bridgestone Tires, and more.
As cg supervisor, John has helmed some of the best 3d teams and established an efficient 3d pipline for commercial production and kept the ship sailing as smooth as possible.
John also started a 70+ members strong LA Freelance Group that consists of really talented animators, designers, and compositors. The group is an outlet for trusted freelancers + producers to help find/pass on work to friends . It is co-moderated by Hai Ho and Robin Roepstorff.
By night, John and his wife Honor run a popular tennis blog called GoToTennis that garners almost 1,000,000 page-views a month. Their goal is to one day see and cover all four majors.
Why Tito? That’s his nickname. There are usually 2-3 John’s at any given time at work. Tito works best for him. You won’t find too many asian guys named Tito. After work, a pint of Guinness, a glass of pinot, or good scotch on the rocks usually works best.
